Other Incursions

There is so much more to Digital Technologies outside of Robotics, Coding and Electronics.

We also run a range of of incursions on a variety of other topics and can customise a workshop to suit you.

We have standard workshop material for all of our workshops, but like to communicate with schools before workshops to understand what students already know, and what are the aims of a visit. We then can customise any workshop to best meet the schools’ needs.

Binary and Pixel art

Computers are run with 1’s and 0’s, but do you know how they use those bits to create images? In this workshop we look at how data is stored in a computer and how this data can then be used to create images that a human can see and understand. This is an offline activity, no devices necessary while still addressing the needs of the Digital Technologies Curriculum.

LEGO Engineering

Why is a chair the shape it is? Why are houses made of bricks? Why are pencils sometimes not round? Every manufactured object we see around us has had to be ‘designed’ be people. What decisions did they have to make when designing their object? This incursion uses common LEGO bricks to step students through the design process. This is an offline activity tailored to suit the relevant Year level.

Stop Motion Animation

From the cinema classic ‘King Kong’ through to modern day favourites ‘Wallace and Grommit’, stop motion animation has been a popular film style. Let your class get creative and have them shoot a short animated clip explaining a science concept, retelling a historical event or making a community announcement. From storyboarding to filming to editing, students will engage in creating their own slice of movie history.

Introduction to TinkerCAD

In this workshop, students enter the world of 3D modeling using TinkerCAD to design their own digital creations. By manipulating basic geometric shapes—grouping, scaling, and cutting holes—students learn the fundamentals of spatial reasoning and computer-aided design (CAD). This hands-on session bridges the gap between imagination and engineering, providing students with skills used by architects, engineers, and designers worldwide.
